Christmas Sugar Cookies Recipe
Ever since I can remember, my mom has made the best “melt-in-your-mouth” sugar cookies for every holiday, and I am happy to carry on the tradition! Note that this recipe is also used in our “Telling the Christmas Story with Food” project.
I hope that you enjoy this recipe for Mom’s Best Sugar Cookies as much as my family!
Ingredients:
Cookie: 3 cups flour 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1 cup butter 2 eggs 1 cup sugar |
Frosting: 2 tablespoons hot water 1 tablespoon butter 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar sprinkles, decorations, and/or food coloring |
||
Directions:
Cookie:
1. Mix together flour, powder and soda. Cut in butter to look like cornmeal.
2. In a separate bowl, beat eggs. Add sugar and beat well. Combine with flour mixture and chill for about an hour.
3. Roll out and cut out shapes.
4. Place on ungreased cookie sheet, and bake at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes.
Frosting:
1. Pour hot water over butter to melt it.
2. Add sugar, and blend with electric mixer until smooth.
3. Add additional water or sugar to the frosting to obtain the right consistency. Spread on cookies when they are cool. Place sprinkles or other decorations while the frosting is still wet.
Note: If you don’t want to frost the cookies, they will still taste great. You can also sprinkle them with powdered sugar instead of frosting to save time.
