Easy Turkey Gravy Recipe
The below recipe is for easy, traditional turkey gravy for Thanksgiving. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
2 cups pan drippings from turkey
Chicken broth or water
4 tablespoons butter, optional
4 tablespoons flour
Salt and pepper, to taste
Directions:
1. Pour turkey drippings through a strainer and into a measuring cup or into a gravy fat separator (links to Amazon). Skim off 2 tablespoons of fat, and discard the remaining fat layer.
2. If you have less than 2 cups of drippings, add chicken broth or water to bring it to 2 cups.
3. Make a roux (this helps to avoid lumpy gravy): Warm the 4 T. of fat (or use 4 T. butter instead) over low to medium heat until warm and melted. Test to see if it is ready for the flour by sprinkling in a pinch. If it slowly starts to bubble, whisk in the rest of the flour. Whisk the fat and flour constantly until the mixture is blended and smooth.
4. Gradually stir in the turkey drippings/broth; bring to a boil and stir regularly until thickened (about 2 minutes).
5. Add salt and pepper to taste.
