Homemade Pizza Heart Recipe

No frozen pizza can compete with this homemade recipe, and when you make your own dough, you can shape it however you want. For Valentine’s Day, we like to make heart-shaped pizzas, and the kids have fun making and shaping their own individual pizzas. Visit our Valentine’s Day Symbols page to learn more about the symbolism and meaning of hearts.

Homemade Pizza HeartsCrust Ingredients:

1 cup very warm water
1 package active dry yeast

1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups flour
Yellow cornmeal

Sauce Ingredients:

1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
water
1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese (grated)
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon parsley
1/4 teaspoon basil
1/4 teaspoon oregano

Toppings:

Mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, and pepperoni.

Directions:

1. Whisk together water, yeast, and sugar. Let it get bubbly and sit for about 10 minutes.

2. Add olive oil, salt and flour.

3. Put olive oil on hands and knead dough until smooth (2-3 minutes).

4. Cover dough with a dishcloth and put in a place where there is no draft (the oven works great). Allow to rise for 20-40 minutes (depending on how thick you like your crust).

5. Divide dough into four equal parts. Put oil on hands and shape dough into a heart (see image 1).
