Cherry Cheese Danish Recipe

I love danishes — especially with cream cheese in them! This recipe makes a wonderful breakfast for Valentine’s Day. I like that it incorporates the Valentine’s Day colors of red and white. You can visit our Valentine’s Day Symbols page to learn more about the symbolism and meaning of red and white for Valentine’s Day.

cherry cheese danishIngredients:

2 tubes refrigerated crescent rolls
2 packages (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 egg white
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
3 tablespoons milk
3/4 cup powdered sugar

Directions:

1.Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2. Unroll crescent dough; separate into 16 triangles. With wide ends of triangles toward the center, arrange 8 triangles in a circle on a baking pan or stone (step 1). The corners of wide ends will touch. Match the wide ends of the next 8 triangles to wide end of each outer triangle (step 2). Seal seams together with fingers.

3. Beat cream cheese, sugar, egg white and vanilla with electric mixer until well blended. Arrange on top of the crescent roll dough in a circular pattern (step 3).

4. Top with cherry pie filling.

5. Beginning in center, lift one dough triangle across mixture. Continue alternating with outer strips, slightly overlapping to form wreath. Tuck last end under first (step 4).

6. Bake 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

7. For glaze, beat milk and sugar with wire whisk until well blended. Drizzle over warm dessert.

VARIATION: For a less sweet breakfast, use plain cherries in water (drained) and add a little sugar.
